Infrastructure and Description of the Area

The plant is located in the Oktyabrsky district of Karagandy region, and is a member of Saryarka SEZ. The geographic location favors its competitiveness in terms of raw materials and end products logistics, both road and rail transportation are possible – located near the national significance highway A-17 Kyzylorda-Pavlodar – the plant has haul roads, own dead-end siding, concrete platforms for receiving goods, indoor and outdoor storage facilities for raw materials and end products.

Brief Description

Tau-Ken Temir LLP is a manufacturer of technical silicon with an annual output of 23,000 tons. The production complex of the plant is represented by two ore-thermal furnaces with a total capacity of 30 MVA each, as well as unique equipment of the German manufacturer SMS SIEMAG, one of the leaders in the market of production of electric furnaces with a submerged arc. The raw material base of the enterprise is the quartz deposit Aktas, owned by Silicon mining LLP. The deposit is located in the Ulytau district of the Karaganda region, 130 km northwest of Zhezkazgan. Quartz of this deposit is characterized by high purity, which makes it the most attractive raw material for the smelting of technical silicon of the highest grades. The total quartz reserve at the deposit is more than 4 million tons, while the annual production volume is 72 thousand tons of vein quartz.

Current Status and Summary of Planned Activities

In accordance with the Government Decree “On Some Privatization Issues for 2021-2025”, the Tau-Ken Temir silicon plant and the Aktas deposit are included in the list of objects proposed for transfer to the competitive environment.

Project management is carried out by Tau-KenTemir LLP, a subsidiary of JSC NMC Tau-Ken Samruk. The owner of the Aktas deposit is Silicon mining LLP, a subsidiary of JSC NMC Tau-Ken Samruk.
