АММ-2019: FORUM RESULTS

On June 12-13, 2019, the capital city of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan city, hosted the X Anniversary Congress Astana Mining & Metallurgy (АММ). The event traditionally brought together international players in the mining industry. Over 900 representatives of business and science, state bodies and financial institutions from 168 companies discussed problems and prospects of MMC and world metallurgy development. Experts from 19 world countries took part in the work of Congress.

This year’s AMM Congress had a new discussion format. The main feature was a Digitalisation and investment horizons.

The Congress Program was opened by the plenary meeting “Strategy of the Global Mining Industry Development,” where MMC leaders shared their companies’ experience in the field of development in terms of the digital industry.

Within the framework of the Congress, for two days, there were 13 round tables, sessions, and forums on the following subjects: “Digitalization of mining and metallurgical complexes. Experience of global leaders”, “Global mining industry development strategies,” “Fighting for investments – who will win?”, “Modernization and environment,” “Development of rare and rare earth metals,” “Actual issues related to subsoil users taxation,” the Forum of Gold Producers.

On these platforms experts discussed acute issues of the industry, shared their experience, best practices and ideas in regard of digitalization of production and processing, increase of MMC production efficiency, attraction of investments and replenishment of mineral and raw materials base, legal regulation in the new Code “On subsoils and Subsoil Use”, and other.

AMM exhibition was organized to the attention of the Congress participants, and it presented advanced technologies and innovative developments for MMC companies. Exhibitors were 23 companies from 6 countries, and 523 specialists visited this event.

The Congress for the first time was the setting for Mining Challenge -2019 hackathon for starting entrepreneurs, programmers, and start-uppers. Based on competition results, the winners got money prize and the opportunity to participate in a program of acceleration of their projects in the workplace or at the enterprise.

SAP, Hatch, FLSMIDTH, and FreeportMcMoRan companies shared their successful cases on implementation of IT-projects on their enterprises. It is necessary to notice, that implementation of cyber-physical systems, big data analysis, and other Industry 4.0 technologies makes possible to reduce production and transportation costs, optimize business processes, introduce new business models, significantly increase the competitiveness of an industrial enterprise.

The Congress summed up the results and held an official award ceremony of the traditional Golden Hephaestus industrial competition. 184 participants from the field of metallurgy, mining industry, science, media, business, and education took part in the Congress. The Golden Hephaestus was awarded to the best specialists in 13 nominations: Professional of the Year (three nominations), Project of the Year, Leader in Kazakhstan Content, Scientist-Teacher of the Year, Diploma Work of the Year, Innovative Leader of the Year, Media Project of the Year (three nominations), Best digital-solution in MMC, and the Best Foreign Partner.

The state partner of the AMM 2019 Congress and Exhibition was the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Organizers – Iteca Kazakhstan Exhibition company and its international partner ITE Group of companies.

In 2020, the mining and metallurgical AMM Congress will take part on June 10-11, in Nur-Sultan city.
