5th Anniversary of Tau-Ken Altyn Refinery

The refinery produced the first batch of finished products – gold 99.99 fine – in December 2013.

During 5 years, Tau-Ken Altyn has been steadily increasing production, today the National Bank of Kazakhstan has bought about 66 tons of refined gold in standard ingots.

The nominal production capacity of the plant is 25 tons of refined gold and 50 tons of refined silver per year, while the production and technological potential allows producing 70 tons of gold and 400 tons of silver annually.

According to Rustem Makulbekov, Director of Tau-Ken Altyn LLP, the plant will reach its planned capacity next year, and following the results of 2018, the planned production figures are expected to exceed 10%.

The main products of Tau-Ken Altyn are refined gold in the form of standard ingots weighing 12 kilograms and refined silver in 30 kilogram ingots. In addition, the plant’s specialists mastered the casting of investment bars weighing 100, 250, 500, 1000 grams, and started the production of refined granules, which Kazakhstani jewelers acquire (since January of the last year, Tau-Ken Altyn is accredited as a manufacturer of 750 and 585 fine jeweler alloys). It is planned to produce investment bars weighing 1, 3, 5, 10 grams, 1 ounce, and semi-finished products made of precious metals for the space industry, electronics, medicine and automotive industry.

Tau-Ken Altyn today is firmly established among the leaders of the refining industry. Achievement of high results became possible through the use of technical and technological innovations. For example, ACIDLESS SEPARATION silver vacuum distillation unit, which has no analogues in Kazakhstan, has been awarded the “Best Innovative Project” award of the Golden Hephaestus industry contest. The applied technology of electrochemical refining ensures absolute environmental safety of all production processes. The quality control of products is carried out by an accredited factory laboratory equipped with modern analytical equipment.

FOR REFERENCE: The strategic importance of own refining production was repeatedly noted by the President of the State. Taking floor in 2011 at the industrial and innovative forum “We will build a strong Kazakhstan together!”, Nursultan Nazarbayev instructed the Government to build a gold production plant in Astana. Construction of Tau-Ken Altyn refinery has been begun on July 3, 2012.

Tau-Ken Altyn LLP is a 100% subsidiary of the National Mining Company Tau-Ken Samruk.

Until 2012, Kazakhstan exported and sold raw materials containing precious metals abroad, now the country has enough production capacity to refine all the available raw materials.
