The loan agreement was signed between ShalkiyaZinc LTD, JSC and EBRD in Astana within Expo-2017 International Specialized Exhibition focused on sustainable energy development. This agreement witnesses a new trajectory of EBRD’s investment program that covers economic development of remote Kazakhstan regions, enhancement of the educational level and career opportunities for women and youth.

To recap, Shalkiya Deposit located in Kyzylorda region is one of the world’s largest lead-zinc mines with proven and forecast 4.8 million tons of zinc and 1.3 million tons of lead reserves. The project includes production expansion and construction of a mill.

“Development of Shalkiya – one of the world’s largest lead-zinc deposits – will considerably contribute to the new industrialization program in Kazakhstan. Today, the enterprise already provides more than 500 jobs, while construction of the main facilities will involve more than 1,500 people. Loan attraction from EBRD significantly increases the investment attractiveness of both ShalkiyaZinc Ltd, JSC and Tau-Ken Samruk, JSC”, said CEO of Samruk-Kazyna, JSC Umirzak Shukeyev.
